Northern Powerhouse Box 2019 - @northernmonk at the helm. One post to sort them all out. Firstly, this wasn’t as good as last years Northern Powerhouse Box. The breweries involved have done far better stuff than what was served up in this. That saying, there were a couple of nice beers in here.
001 - @trackbrewingco Decent little small IPA, canny flavour for a little one.
002 - @northbrewco Getting North to do a Gose was always a good shout. This was a highlight for me, fleshy fruits, with a bit of a salty flavour in there.
003 - @donzokobeer Another decent one, Donzoko do a good pint of fizzy, and this floral pilsner was a nice easy drink.
004 - @wylam_brewery Bit dull. Quite thin, not that sour. Drinkable, but wanted more. Not the usual Wylam flavours.
005 - @buxtonbrewery I like a West Coast beer big, weedy, dank and full of pine. This had those things, but watered down. Amped up this could have been great. Buxton stout though? Why not a stout?
006 - @cloudwaterbrew Pretty decent DIPA. Not Cloudwater’s best this year by any stretch, but a peppery, dank DIPA which still tasty a tad green.
007 - @bytheriverbrewco Favourite of the Box. Almost stout-esque. Sweet, big caramel and coffee notes. Enjoyed this.
Overall, but hit and miss this box, preferred last years.
Now pouring: Amundsen - Pillars of Light. This mango milkshake ipa is a cheeky devil, almost zero hints of alcohol. Hitting you in the face with loads of sweet mango flavours and a beautiful creamy mouth feel. Seriously drinkable for a 7.5% beer.

Vanilla Nice, Madagascar Vanilla Beans aged in Brandy Barrels to enhance the Vanilla tones expressed from the oak staves. ABV 6.5%, ManaFerkin is also part of the @brewersassoc Independent craft, which I completely support!
I’m absolutely swooning over this beautiful set up. The bottle was as sophisticated as the taste, labeling, wax finish and all. The first sip was wonderfully smooth with subtle lacing of vanilla notes dancing on your tongue. The pour was golden and lightly swayed with a medium body. Aroma was of a warm vanilla bean candle that had welcomed you home the moment you walked in the door. -
Thank you @manafirkin_brewing_company for sending me this lovely tasting. This is what true independent craft beer is all about for me. Im glad to call you my “Firkin” friends through out all these years of supporting each other 🍺Cheers! -
