Vilified in the media, it appears red meat is not as harmful as we have been led to believe. At a time where we seem to be constantly pushed away from foods that most likely dominated our diet for 99% of our time on this planet and pulled towards highly processed fake meats pretending to be something which a lot of experts would consider to be inferior to the real thing. You don't have to dig too far to understand how profitable processed foods are and grass-fed red meat is not, and assume why one is marketed to us as beneficial to our health, and the other not so much. Well, for what my opinion is worth. I will not be feeding my 1-year-old baby girl highly processed fake meat burgers. But I would happily give her a burger patty made from a blend of locally sourced grass-fed beef muscle meat and organ meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner if she wanted it.

My dad @drwinstongreenmp was my biggest inspiration behind my career path. I remember growing up and seeing him treat bus loads of senior citizens at the office for free, and our long drives to rural areas without access to health care, where he'd examine patients and make dentures. It's one of the biggest reasons that I'm so passionate about health care and service.
Right before he died, I remember feeling frustrated with how my life was unfolding - there was so much that I wanted to achieve, and I felt as though it was all delayed.
One of the greatest things he said was, "whenever you're in doubt, look closely at the present you are constructing. It should look like the future you are dreaming". Now, it serves as a constant reminder when things look bleak - just take it day by day, actively work towards your future goals, and allow the rest to unfold naturally.

PROBIOTICS & PREBIOTICS
There is so much hype about probiotics and probiotics, but does anyone actually know what they are? Or what are their benefits?
Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that are naturally created by the live fermentation process in foods such as yogurt, sauerkraut, miso, kimchi, kefir and others. While there are many types of bacteria classified as probiotics, the two most common are: - Lactobacillus: easing digestion in the colon and helping people to digest lactose (milk sugar).
- Bifidobacterium: easing symptoms of IBS and related conditions, fights harmful bacteria, immunity strength.
What are the benefits of probiotics?
Many health professionals recommend a course of probiotics after taking antibiotics (due to the nature of antibiotics removing good bacteria in the gut). Numerous studies have also demonstrated the beneficial effects on immune diseases, chronic pain and some neurological disorders. Probiotic bacteria are fragile, and can be affected by your stomach acid and the time in which it takes to reach your gut.
Prebiotic fibre is the non-digestible part of foods like bananas, onion, garlic, the skin of apples, beans and many others. Prebiotic fibre goes through the small intestine undigested and is fermented when it reaches the colon. This fermentation process feeds beneficial bacteria (probiotics) and aids in increasing the number of good bacteria in our digestive systems.
Foods rich in prebiotic fibre include:
- Chicory root
- Oatmeal - Broccoli
- Asparagus - Greens
- Apple with skin - Barley - Wheat bran
Scientific literature has demonstrated the efficacy of a diet full of probiotic and prebiotic rich foods to support immunity, digestive health, bone density, weight management and brain health.

🔸Inspired by my profession in working with clients suffering from neurological disorders, as well as my investment in health and nutrition, this page will be centred around how we can manipulate our gut microbiome in order to optimise our physical and mental health. . 🔹There are over 100 million neutrons in the gut - as many as you would find in the brain of a cat. Approximately 1 - 2kgs of microbes live in your gut and make up your unique ‘microbiome’. Microbes are responsible for breaking down the fibre in your diet and they produce critical nutrients that feeds the cells lining your gut. Until recently, microbes were impossible to study, and it has only been in the past 5 - 10 years that there have been major findings demonstrating the role they play in regulating body weight, hormones, emotions, behaviour and our susceptibility to disease.
. 🔸Many investigations have been conducted on mice, making it difficult to be 100% certain of the transferability of these studies to humans. The American Gut Project, however, has validated these hypothesis in the world’s largest micro biome citizen science study to date. .
To summarise in the most digestible way........
. • The greater the diversity of plants in the diet, the greater the diversity of microbes in the gut, enabling increased ease in the breakdown and digestion of foods. Microbes help regulate body weight. They can decide how much energy your body extracts from food; they control hunger signals; they help decide which foods your crave and they determine how much your blood sugar spikes in response to a meal. .
• Our gut micro biome influences our susceptibility to diseases such as obesity, liver disease, heart disease, depression, anxiety and some neurological disorders. .
• Studies of the ‘gut-brain axis’have risen from 100 or so to 1000’s in the past 20 years. Judging by this figure, it goes without saying that our ‘gut-brain’ knowledge is only just beginning. .

I went low by the pool this morning... and it was a perfect example of why @cwdiabetes is so special!
After realizing that it was my Dexcom going off... and not one of the many pump beeps & CGM alarms heard around the pool, I went to go treat my low. I then realized I didn’t have any low supplies on me, and asked someone if they might have anything. 3 different people instantly offered me Dex4 & juice boxes 💙
I’ve never felt more safe and more understood than when I’m here at FFL. Looking around the pool & seeing people who look like you, or talking to people who understand what you’re going through is so unbelievably special. I feel so at home 💙
