Workout Wednesday Cross Training :

While we haven't swam since Sunday, we are making sure to keep our cardio up! Yesterday evening, we went for a 2 mile jog with our vizsla. She sets the pace (which is usually a little faster than I prefer) but it's great exercise for the three of us !

Here are some tips on doing box jumps like a swimmer:

1. Start in the down position just like you are getting ready to jump off the blocks.
2. Launch with everything trying to hit a fully extended position in the air, arms up, head up, chest up and toes pointed.
3. Land with straight legs. Lower the box height to where you can do this, even if it means jumping on the sidewalk curb. .

The idea is to make this as specific to jumping off the blocks and/or turns. This way the dryland will transfer to the water.

Come ormai da tradizione, ogni dieci #SwimWorkout normali 🏊‍♂️ proponiamo una versione #Military 💣 per chi vuole sfidare la propria forma fisica, determinazione e resilienza 👊

Tutto l'allenamento è basato su esercizi da 250 metri (10 vasche), così è facile da ricordare, visto il poco afflusso di ossigeno al cervello 🤣
Dopo 250 metri a piacere il workout prevede questi 5 esercizi: - 250 metri “MARINES”: 25 metri a stile per raggiungere l’altra sponda, uscire dal bordo (non dalla scaletta), per eseguire 10 piegamenti sulle braccia, quindi tuffo e 25 metri di ritorno. Ripetere 5 volte, senza pause tra le vasche. - 250 metri pull ritorno solo gambe: l’andata si nuota a stile con il pull tra le gambe dopo la virata si prende il pull con le mani e, con le braccia tese si torna solo gambe stile. -  250 metri stile, ritorno pugni chiusi: l’obiettivo del nuoto con i pugni chiuse è cercare di rendere efficace la bracciata “sentendo l’acqua” sugli avambracci. - 250 metri stile, nuotando in ipossico le vasche di ritorno: obiettivo è respirare meno volte possibile. Possibile sequenza: primo ritorno respirazione ogni 5 bracciate, secondo ritorno respirazione ogni 6 bracciate, terzo ritorno respirazione ogni 7 bracciate, e così via. Riposo di almeno due minuti prima dell’ultimo esercizio. - 250 metri stile “a tutta”: 10 vasche da nuotare veramente forte.

Dopo un recupero a bordo vasca di almeno un paio di minuti, si può decidere se mollare il colpo e passare al defaticamento (250 metri, ovviamente!), oppure fare un secondo ciclo e alla fine sentirsi degli eroi! 💪

* 1. Creatine monohydrate: Increases exercise capacity, ability to perform high intensity exercise and increases lean muscle mass.
- Easily the best studied, most beneficial and safest supplement on the market. The problem is it mainly improves sprint and power sports like weight lifting and throwing. For the right athlete in the right events, creatine might be something to play with.
* 2. Caffeine: Inhibits an enzyme and certain receptors to act as a mild stimulant.
- On average, expect about 3% better performance in endurance and up to 9% in sprinting! * 3. Beetroot juice or nitrate (NO3) -Improves blood flow to muscles, mitochondrial efficiency, glucose use and contraction/relaxation cycles of muscles. It may also signal increased mitochondrial growth. - Nitric oxide is one of the hormones that is released by muscle during workout to dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow to those muscles (see Hormones chapter). * 4. Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda): A compound found in blood that acts as a buffering agent against acid overload.
- It was specifically researched in swimmers and improved 200m swim times by about 2%. * 5. Beta-alanine: Related to and boosts carnosine levels which is a muscle buffering protein.
- Decreases rate of fatigue with weightlifting which might make it good for sprinters, but probably not as useful for everyone else.
6. Sodium phosphate: Unclear how it works. Probably helps replenish ATP faster.
- Loading for 4-5 days before a meet has been shown to improve endurance capacity by up to 10%.

Ups! Vor einiger Zeit habe ich mich zum Langstrecken Schwimmen in München angemeldet. Mein Problem: es wird hier einfach nicht wärmer und ich werde bestimmt nicht 4km in knapp über 10 Grad kaltem Wasser schwimmen. 🤣(Ich heiße ja nicht Henry 😅) Ich hoffe einfach mal auf eine plötzliche Wetteränderung. 🙈 Aber hey: wenn es zu kalt ist, ist es zu kalt und ich nehme halt nicht teil. 😋 Das ist übrigens keine Schande!!! Wir sollten nämlich viel öfter auf unseren Körper hören und ihn behutsam und mit Respekt behandeln. Natürlich ist es cool ein Ziel zu haben, auch einmal über seine Grenzen  hinaus zu gehen und ehrgeizig zu sein. Manchmal ist es aber auch wichtig nur an sich zu denken und die Gesundheit. Ich für meinen Teil bin einfach nur dankbar, was mein Körper leisten kann. Wir dürfen niemals vergessen, dass es nicht selbstverständlich ist sich uneingeschränkt zu bewegen.
