I’ve recently focused on eliminating unnecessary carbs from my diet and cutting my calorie intake. I haven’t been able to lift as often as I would like and wanted to cut for my “BeAcH bOdY”. I’ve lost around 10 pounds; however, it has not been a fun few weeks.

Notable changes include I stopped eating a bagel every morning (60-80g carbs) and stopped drinking chocolate milk with meals (20-35g carbs per cup). Unfortunately, attempting to avoid carbs has made it very hard to meet other macros. Drinking protein shakes and eating packages of lunch meat (tired of chicken) may limit my carbs, but it can’t be sustainable. I’m sure there are other methods to avoiding carbs, but this is the route I took. This is only temporary and I will focus on a healthy bulk in a month or two.

My form may not be 100% perfect because I was super tired when filming so pls don’t hate me😂😭 I took the time to record how I usually work calves because no one ever talks about them and I want big calves😂😭😭 I like to use something that goes on my shoulders, I don’t like the seated machines as I feel like they put too much pressure on my knees. So I have this machine and I do 10 with my toes pointed in, 10 neutral, then 10 outward!!! Ankle Mobility, or lack there of.
.
Such a common occurrence and may be hindering you in different aspects of your physical activity, especially when trying to performing a great squat. This was definitely the case for me and still is a little bit, but I've been working on it. Understandably, there are plenty of other issues that can arise such as hip and thoracic mobility but let's focus on one at a time.
.
People may often get the odd twist or sprain in the ankle but usually, it is a pretty stable joint. As a result, it can become stiff and immobile. When this happens it can affect the rest of the body. i.e the arch of the foot becoming collapsed, the knee becomes unstable and this can lead to hip and lower back problems, etc.
.
Why not check how your ankle mobility is and see if you can improve it over time. To test, find a wall and kneel close to it with your shoes off. Use a tape measure and place your big toe 5 inches from the wall. From this position, push your knee forward attempting to touch the wall with your knee. Your heel must stay in contact with the ground. You have passed the test if the knee can touch the wall at 5 or more inch distance, your heels remain firmly planted on the ground, your knees aligned with your feet(no valgus knee) and No Pain noted.

If your mobility needs work. A great pre-lift mobility / stretch I recommend is: 
Find an elevated surface. Put one foot up on the surface and keep one foot down. Lean forward onto the elevated foot making sure to keep the heel down. hold this position for 15 seconds. Repeat on the opposite leg. 2-4 sets of this prior to your lift.
.
Give this a try and see how it impacts your squat pattern and depth. Hopefully, you'll have improvements all around.

Graham and I decided to document a case study of sorts in the lead up to our holidays, that are planned for this month. (Graham is currently on his)

The set up of any nutrition protocol should always be individualised and made to meet the needs of the clients, not the other way around.
.
There is no one size fits all.
.
Before even thinking of FAST fat-loss strategies. It's very important you have the foundational knowledge of nutrition and can easily apply that understanding to your lifestyle.

Without this framework and a hierarchy of what is important, being aggressive will always end in a disastrous cycle of dieting and getting nowhere.

✅If I’m going to load a movement I’m further engraining that pattern, so it’s important that we’re getting quality.

🚨In this situation I wanted to put Sierra in a position for her to figure out how to execute the squat without getting real “hingy” with the pattern.
‘
✅Elevating her heels allowed her to squat within a more comfortable ROM without Ankle/Hip mobility limiting the movement as much.
‘
🚨The majority of my basketball players execute squats in this manner.

Really trying to grow my back this offseason. Been hitting back three times per week. Sick back and rear delt pump here. Trying to hang on to the leanness before the bulk hits too hard.
I was introduced to fitness in middle school.
.
It helped me break out of my shell.
(Cause omg I was SO shy. For real)
.
But it didn’t just magically make me confident. 
I was so embarrassed to work out in front of my family that I would close the door, turn on the fan, up the music, turn up the volume of the DVD I was following so they couldn’t hear me stomping around/breathing heavily.
.
This embarrassment went on for probably a couple of years maybe even a few. But I still did it anyway just in the privacy of my own bedroom.
.
Even though I was embarrassed, I knew that it was good for me so I kept doing it.
.
Fast forward to college where I met a guy who I started a relationship with.
It didn’t take long for the red flags to show up, but it did take a while for me to get out of a very toxic & abusive situation.
.
During this time I allowed this person to basically take over my entire life.
I gradually & then suddenly shot down into a heavy depression.
I gained weight from stress, anxiety, self-doubt, & fear.
Nothing I was doing was “right.”
Ever.
.
When that “relationship” finally ended I seemingly magically lost about 5 to 6 pounds.
.
I was no longer in a toxic environment physically or emotionally so my body & mind were able to relax for the first time in years.
.
After this, it didn’t take long for me to walk into an actual gym for the first time in my life.
.
That shy little girl from middle school had shown up again with a vengeance tho bc my confidence had been stripped away day by day for over two years.
.
I felt like I was honestly starting from scratch all over again.
.
All I had ever done as far as fitness was concerned was at home workouts with the heaviest weights being 10lb dumbbells.
.
But I wanted to see what I was made of so I went into the gym scared as hell, so self-conscious & just went for it.
.
& dude. I got so strong. .
Seeing my body transform the way it did when I was challenging it, feeding it well, nourishing it & LOVING it motivated me to put in the mental work to get better overall.

Fitness update 👇🏼👇🏼⁣
I started tracking my food about a week and a half ago, just bc I was curious how many calories I was eating & if I was meeting my protein intake. I’m not following a certain diet nor am I restrictive with my food, but I am glad I did this. I like seeing if I hit my protein intake or not & it’s made me realize that I can eat A LOT more food since I’m currently in a caloric surplus. Oh & tracking my calories also taught be that I CAN eat yummy desserts & NOT feel guilty (as long as they fit my macros) 🍭🍩🍪🧁🍨⁣

Soooo if you have ever thought about tracking your food, I recommend to at least try it out 💁🏼‍♀️💁🏼‍♀️
